Treasury, IRS Seek Input on Alternative Fuel Vehicles Tax Incentives
The U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) have issued notices requesting public input on key tax incentives in the Inflation Reduction Act, including those related to commercial clean vehicles and alternative fuel vehicle refueling property, and clean hydrogen and clean fuel production. Here’s a copy of the request. Of interest to the biofuel and bioenergy industries, the newly signed law establishes new tax credits for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), clean transportation fuels and clean hydrogen. It also extends several existing tax credits that benefit transportation biofuels, such as renewable diesel and biodiesel, and includes funding for biofuel infrastructure development.
Biofuel is closer to becoming a cost-competitive, climate-friendly solution for slashing carbon emissions in cars and trucks, according to two new studies. The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Argonne National Laboratory has collaborated with the DOE’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) and Idaho National Laboratory (INL) on the research. Results showed that biofuel combined with advanced engine design can reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by roughly 60% while improving fuel efficiency or reducing tailpipe emissions. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have just released the 2023 Fuel Economy Guide. The Guide provides detailed fuel economy estimates for model year 2023 light-duty vehicles, along with estimated annual fuel costs and other information for prospective car buyers.

Texas Natural Gas Vehicle Grant Program
TCEQ is now accepting applications under the Texas Natural Gas Vehicle Grant Program (TNGVGP).
The TNGVGP provides grants to encourage an entity that owns and operates a heavy-duty or medium-duty motor vehicle to repower the vehicle with a natural gas engine or replace the vehicle with a natural gas vehicle.
Applications will be accepted for consideration on a first-come, first-served basis and must be received by TCEQ no later than 5:00 p.m., Central Time on March 31, 2023.
