Air Monitor Location Survey

CAPCOG’s air quality program, in collaboration with the Clean Air Coalition, plans to install low-cost outdoor air quality sensors that provide real-time, publicly available air pollution data across the Austin region. We need your help to select locations for these sensors.

These air sensors will help CAPCOG develop a better understanding of air pollution levels across the region and provide opportunities for environmental education, benefiting both students and adults.

Take the survey and tell us which factors are most important to you when it comes to air quality? Do you know an area that would benefit from air quality monitoring?

you’ll share your input on air quality monitoring in the region and have the opportunity to win a $25 Amazon gift card!

This survey will be open until Friday, August 22, 2025.

Your voice can help improve air quality in Central Texas.                           Together, we can Be Air Aware!

Vehicle emissions are a major contributor to air pollution, and the air pollution released from idling vehicles is particularly harmful to public health, especially for developing lungs in children. Every hour of idling produces roughly 4 pounds of greenhouse gases, including nitrous oxides and fine dust. Every two minutes of idling use the same amount of gas as one mile driven. In addition, excessive idling can actually damage your engine parts, adding more potential cost to drivers.

Create a healthier environment for our kids by turning off engines when waiting in the pick-up and drop-off line. Avoid idling by biking to school with your kids, using public transit or the school bus, and carpooling to school. Check out Movability’s SchoolPool program to connect with carpoolers at these schools: Ann Richards, Griffin, NYOS, LASA, Kealing, Ridgetop, and General Marshal. August 24-30 is Carpool Week, where you can be entered for a chance to win $100 HEB and Amazon gift cards by carpooling.

In Case You Missed It: Innovative EV Charging Solutions Webinar

Last month the Texas Clean Cities and Communities Coalitions presented a webinar on innovative and unique electric vehicle charging technologies with speakers from BeamXCharge and AK Power Solutions.

Very interesting technologies – check out the presentation slides as well as the recording.  Shoutout to our sister coalition Alamo Area Clean Cities for hosting.

Alternative Fuel Station Locator

Clean Cities Coalitions like Central Texas Clean Cities help maintain the Alternative Fuels Data Center Station Locator

Funded by DOE and managed by NREL this comprehensive tool documents the location and key information of 98,517 alternative fuel stations and EV charging sites across the US and Canada. Just about every possible thing you’d need to know about these stations is included. Planning a trip across county? Use the Locator.

Data includes: independent and networked stations, public and private, existing and planned, hours of operation, phone number, payment methods, address, vehicle size accommodations, and notes on key features. Choose lmap or spreadsheet view.

The station locator is constantly being updated. NREL obtains information on station openings and closings by working closely with a variety of sources, including industry, fuel providers, and vendors. Clean Cities coalitions fill in gaps of missing private stations or other information as needed. The Clean Cities network of close to 80 coalitions across the country is called upon to verify station details directly when needed to confirm they are still operational.
